Kirk Venge
Raised in Rutherford, in the heart of Napa Valley, Kirk Venge, comes from a much celebrated wine family. As the son of a winemaker and grandson of a wine importer, his introduction to wine began early with his first taste at age four, and his first harvest experience by age eight. Some of his earliest lessons were learned riding alongside his father through vineyard rows, developing a hands-on understanding of the craft from the ground up. Those early years helped lay the framework for his artistry and instilled in him a profound passion for his work.
Receiving his degree in Viticulture and Enology from the world renowned University of California, Davis in 1998, Kirk now has more than 28 years of formal winemaking experience. He has built a career that blends a deep respect for tradition, while at the same time embracing modern innovation. The foundation of his thoughtful winemaking approach lies in a committment to vineyard health and its careful, attentive farming, as well as his belief that great wine is made slowly. His brilliant ability to balance science, art and skill is reflective in his dedication to the craft, and shines through in every bottle.
Today, Kirk owns and operates Venge Vineyards and Croix Estate. One of his proudest accomplishments is his ongoing collaboration with Steve and Jen, and creating Promise Wines. He is an integral part of the Promise family and helps sustain an unwavering commitment to quality, consistence and excellence year after year.
